About Us:

We are a community group based in Cambridge, dedicated to supporting individuals facing mental health challenges and addiction. Our goal is to provide a welcoming space where people can unwind, have fun, and connect with others in similar situations... all through the power of football.

Our sessions are open to anyone aged 18 and over, regardless of gender or background. Whether you're currently struggling, have faced challenges in the past, or simply want to support others on their journey, you’re welcome to be part of our community.

Our Team:

At Addicted to Football, we consider ourselves more than just a team; we are a family. The individuals involved come from diverse backgrounds and have varied life experiences, which enables us to support one another effectively.

In a team, individualism is set aside. The atmosphere is characterized by friendliness, open-mindedness, and a collective willingness to assist one another in achieving success together.

Sponsors & Kit:

To date, our efforts have primarily focused on the physical aspects of our activities, which has resulted in a lack of pursuit for sponsorship opportunities. Until yesterday, I have been financing the group personally; however, a generous individual recently contributed a donation of 300 pounds, which has been allocated towards the purchase of our new shirts. We are now actively seeking a sponsor to feature prominently on the front of our kit.

Goals for the Future:

This year, our primary objective is to concentrate on our group and assess the benefits derived from our sessions.

We will utilize biweekly surveys from our participants to evaluate any changes in their mental health and addiction challenges since their involvement. Based on the positive outcomes, we can then expand our efforts to other regions across the UK to provide support to those in need. Progress cannot be achieved without completing the initiatives we have commenced.

My overarching aim is to assist individuals in recognizing that life can be positive if we embrace change, actively listen, learn, and collaborate. Together, we can explore numerous opportunities, and I am committed to guiding this journey.

In April, we will introduce two additional sessions focused solely on fitness, distinct from football.

These new sessions will be titled "Addicted to Fitness."

Achievements:

One of my most significant personal accomplishments is the transformation I have undergone in my life. I began as a 14-year-old boy living on the streets, spending time in children's homes, and enduring three years of incarceration. My life was marked by daily drug use, which ultimately led to a heart attack. However, I fought diligently in court for the custody of my children, and I am proud to say that I am still here, smiling despite the physical and mental scars I carry. I would not change any aspect of my journey. The most important thing is that I have been drug-free for six years and have not smoked for four years. I enjoy regular weekends with my three children, have a comfortable home, a driving license, and have remained out of legal trouble for several years. It is incredibly rewarding to know that people now look up to me, a feeling that is truly priceless.

My second most significant accomplishment is witnessing the remarkable growth of our team in such a brief period. Our Facebook group has expanded to over 100 members, with 30 active participants who attend whenever possible. We have conducted interviews with prominent media outlets, including ITV, BBC, Star Now TV, and BBC Radio, among others. Additionally, we have established a partnership with Cambridge City, which has provided us with substantial support. We are also in communication with the Cambridge United Foundation, which intends to assist us in the future. Furthermore, we are collaborating with various charities in the area that now recognize us as a community support group, directing individuals in need to our sessions. The outlook for our organization, Addicted to Football, is exceptionally promising, with plans to launch Addicted to Fitness in the near future. I take immense pride in being the founder of a community that is collectively progressing in life, which is a significant achievement for all involved.

We represent a remarkable collective achievement, and I take immense pride in everyone who has participated in our journey. It is truly extraordinary to witness individuals from diverse backgrounds and varying needs collaborating as a cohesive team, free from judgment. Our accomplishments surpass what can be expressed in words, and we are committed to further developing and expanding our community
